Climate Training Kit

Welcome to the Climate Training Kit, an interactive set of training materials prepared by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the Climate Centre.

Climate change is one of the biggest global issues of the 21st century and severely affects the lives of millions of people. State and non-state actors now need to commit to urgent action and raise their ambition to address climate change. 

This kit is designed to provide innovative tools to trainers and facilitators within the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement and its partners. It aims to strengthen capacities across the world, without having to fly experts around the globe. We seek to reduce our flights and travel (CO₂ emissions), by offering these training materials online, with extensive explanation for facilitators on how to use each of the resources. 

Information on important areas of humanitarian work, including technical aspects of climate risk management, climate-related policy dialogues, climate finance and much more are available in this kit.

As with any generic tool, we would emphasize that all these products need to be tailored to local context and audience, but this is a menu for your convenience.

The materials will work best when facilitators feel comfortable explaining the messages in their own wording. The Climate Training Kit was updated during 2019-21.

Please note there is also an IFRC E-learning course climate science, climate advocacy and climate action, availabale at the IFRC E-learning platform: here. While the CTK is a suite of resources ready to be tailored to specific trainings, this IFRC online learning course offers a more traditional e-learning format. These tools are complementary to one another.

IFRC and the Climate Centre are grateful for the (financial) support of the Canadian Red Cross and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs through Partners for Resilience, which enabled the development of the first Climate Training Kit in 2014 and the second version of the Climate Training Kit from 2019, respectively.
