2. What can we do?

This module is the most extensive in the kit and explains how climate variability and climate change can be integrated in the work of the Red Cross Red Crescent. The module summarizes how climate change adaptation can be mainstreamed into the core activities of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement.

There are five sub-modules. 

2a. Early warning early action and forecast-based financing is the important first module. It lays the foundation for work with climate and weather information, relevant for all subsequent modules (2b-2e). 

2b. Disaster management and climate explains how climate can be integrated into disaster risk reduction (DRR), response and recovery. It identifies entry points in the IFRC approach known as ‘preparedness for effective response’. The module can be combined with others, especially 2a and 2c. 

2c. Community resilience and climate explains how climate can be considered in assessments of community risk, as well as various elements of climate-smart resilience as part of a holistic approach to DRR.

2d. Health, WASH and climate explains why and how climate risks and climate variability can be integrated into health and WASH programmes. 

2e. Urban and Climate explains the impact of climate change in urban areas and shares possible actions that can be taken to climate-smart urban programming along with relevant tools and resources for urban practitioners. 

2f. Inclusion and climate is a cross-cutting module that details how women and girls and marginalized groups can be disproportionately affected by climate change.
